The more flexible a tire is, the more easily it responds to obstacles and get over them. Thin skin and circle profile of a tubular give him more flexibility than a common tire because the tubular is sticked to the rim without being locked to its sides: the tubular is able to bend entirely. Traditional tires aren't that free. This gives the tubular more grip and improves rolling, whatever the pressure. The difference about the performance increases even more at low pressure where a tire with tube may burst, where a rim may hurt the ground with its sides and where a tubeless tire may see its pressure get down.
